Trip Motivation
Huntsville is an easy quick visit from Nashville. One of our college friends has 2 kids and we love getting together as often as we can. Huntsville is a lovely city full of nice outdoor restaurants, cool parks and awesome museums. We’ve made several visits including in April 2021 and August 2022
Nashville, TN to Huntsville, AL: 2-Hour Road Trip
Nashville to Huntsville is a quick 2-hour trip. We left after school on a Friday and came back late Saturday afternoon. You can find more tips for road trips with kids here.
On the way there, we stopped at the Tennessean Truck Stop right off the highway in Pulaski. As a bonus, we also got to enjoy ice cream. Even if it’s a short vacation, its still a vacation! This area would also be good for a mid-way meet-up if you’re in our area and have friends in Alabama as this exit also has an indoor play area called Kidsville.
Hyatt Place
We stayed at the Hyatt Place Research Park and used our points (5,000) The location was near downtown and convenient for our outings. Hyatt Place is one of our favorite hotel stays with a pull-out sofa for the kids and a simple free breakfast. This hotel had a pool but wasn’t yet open for the season.
You can earn Hyatt points from Hyatt stays, the Hyatt credit card and Chase points which can be transferred to Hyatt. You can learn more about points here
Activities in Huntsville
Beer and outdoor spaces are our go-tos! While we were only in Huntsville for less than 24 hours, we were able to enjoy some great restaurants and hike with our friends at the Monte Sano trail. We did the Sinks Trail which was about 1.5 miles and had some beautiful views.
Favorite Restaurants
Stovehouse- This was a fantastic spot with live music, lots of food choices and a kids play area. It was awesome. We enjoyed some ramen and the kids played for hours while we listened to music. On our recent trip, we had crepes bigger than our head and bubble teas as well!
Campus 805- Yellowhammer Brewery. Huge outdoor space for frisbee throwing and hanging out with friends. Pizza and ice cream and good beer. This area is really cool. It used to be a school that was revitalized to house multiple breweries and restaurants. A fantastic spot.
Other Huntsville Recs
Space and Rocket Center: Big spaceships! Its on the reciprocal list!
Botanic Gardens: Fun children area!
Spring Park: Often fun events and food trucks
Final Thoughts
