Trip motivation
We decided on this trip because a friend of mine chose Bozeman for a 5-year anniversary party. Her parents live there and she regularly visits and talks up the gorgeous scenery and outdoor life. Read more about how we traveled to Bozeman here and about what we did in Bozeman here.
During our trip, we had to drive to Helena, the capital city of Montana because we needed to stop at Walgreens for travel related covid testing. Montana is known for their great national parks and Helena is a good landing spot to start finding different areas around the state.
Mini Road Trip!
The drive to Helena took about an hour and a half. Read more about tips for car rides here We only spent half a day in Helena and picked a few highlights. We wanted to explore the area and not just drive there and back.
Activities
Mount Helena
There were multiple trails here. We did the 1906 and Powerline Trail. This was definitely more of an incline then our kids were ready for but we did it! (With some gummy shark bribery) Coming down, there was some tripping on gravel. Difficulty for 3 year old: 3/10. About 2 hours
Carousel
The kids enjoyed a quick ride on a carousel with animals local to the area. Also near to this area was a concert stage and bear statues. A fun area to wander. This was close to our lunch spot!
State Capitol
There weren’t tours at this time for the capitol building but we still stopped by for some quick pics!
Other activities
We were only there for a quick visit. If we had more time, here were the activities we would have considered doing.
Restaurants
Brewhouse- Near the carousel area. Beers, pizza, patio, all our favorites
